USLS Program Highlight: UNHCR delivering workshop on forced migration and the humanitarian response
Without a doubt, the last several years have been tremendously difficult for asylum seekers and refugees around the world, whether that be the hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar or Venezuelan migrants in the Americas. This underscores the importance of learning how to support refugees in diverse contexts.
The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) will be delivering a workshop on refugees and the humanitarian response at the University Scholars Leadership Symposium (USLS). The UNHCR will be delivering this workshop alongside 6 other UN agencies’ workshops at the UNESCAP on UN Workshop Day.
During the UNHCR’s workshop, the students will have the opportunity to:
- Discover experiences of forced migration and the unique complexities refugees face in diverse contexts;
- Understand how to respond to forced migrations with life-saving support and safeguard fundamental human rights;
- Discover key ways to build brighter futures for refugees in diverse contexts;
- Generally, learn how to be a refugee advocate; and
- Ask UNHCR staff any questions you may have and network.
Let’s all work together in creating a safer and supportive world for refugees.
