The Mathematics and Astronomy Club is one of the newest clubs of IBA and it kick-started its activities in its first year with an Introductory session on Thursday, the 30th of October.
The session was conducted at the Student Center Event Hall and was attended by a number of students and the faculty of the Mathematics Department.
It started off with a talk on Astronomy by Dr. Shahid Qureshi which informed the students about the applications of astronomy. Dr. Shahid highlighted both the social and technological aspects in which astronomy has helped advance society from when we started counting our days to modern satellite based GPS tracking and time keeping.
This was followed by a Rubik's Cube competition which was won by Emaad Muhammad. Judging by the success of the competition the Club plans to conduct more of such competitions on an even larger scale.
