Oct 9, 2018: Koto And Shamisen Performance

The IBA Student Council collaborated with the Consulate General of Japan in Karachi to organize a performance by Ms. Sumie Kaneko, showcasing the traditional Japanese instruments of koto and shamisen. Ms. Sumie Kaneko is an internationally recognized koto and shamisen player, collaborating with many musicians to bring her unique blend of jazz and traditional Japanese music to audiences around the world. Ms. Kaneko fascinated the audience with her performance for one and a half hour, showing her mastery of the instruments.

To conclude the event, she performed Sammi Meri Waar, a Pakistani folk song made famous by Coke Studio. It was the perfect example of how music can be used to bridge cultural gaps. The event was successful in bringing a part of Japanese culture to IBA, allowing the students to appreciate the beauty of music in any form.
