MOU signing ceremony for the launch of Connecting Generations

On 23rd July 2025, EDUCAST (UK) and IBA came together in a spirit of compassion and collaboration to sign an MOU for the launch of Connecting Generations , a student volunteering program that aims to bring together younger individuals with elders in our community, to create connections and foster understanding between generations.

This groundbreaking initiative is dedicated to enhancing the lives of elder individuals through innovative solutions and meaningful interventions. The program will provide social services to improve the quality of life and promote healthy living for elderly persons, a segment of the population often in need of greater attention and support.

The program is divided into two phases; Phase 1 being the Theoretical Foundation and Phase 2 being the Practical Implementation and Reporting. IBA students from all years and programs were invited to register for Connecting Generations, after attending an information session. The registered students attended a self-paced online course on Heathy Ageing (a program developed under the directives of United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021-2030) followed by a quiz, designed by the faculty of Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi. All those who successfully completed Phase 1 received a Certificate of Completion. We initially received 64 registrations and after a rigorous online training session, 34 students have successfully completed Phase 1 and will be starting Phase 2 soon.

The major components of the program include:

  • General well-being including mental health of elderly individuals.
  • Companionship and social interaction
  • Assisting with basic tasks
  • Raising awareness about the needs and challenges of elderly.
  • Familiarizing elders with digital platforms and applications

The MOU signing ceremony marked the beginning of a partnership built on shared values of empathy and respect, paving the way for a brighter future where every generation is empowered to thrive and flourish. By bridging the gap between generations, fostering mutual understanding, and promoting social inclusion, the program aims to create a supportive ecosystem where the wisdoms and experiences of older adults are cherished and valued.
