IBA Hosts “Breathing Books” – A Collaborative Initiative with NOWPDP and ODAI
Office of Diversity, Accessibility & Inclusion (ODAI), IBA Karachi in collaboration with NOWPDP organized “Breathing Books”—a unique and deeply moving storytelling event centered on the lived experiences of persons with disabilities (PWDs). Designed as a human-library style engagement, the session allowed participants to “read” people instead of pages, listening to their journeys of resilience, identity, and personal growth.
The event featured four remarkable individuals: Ashir Wilson, Dr. Anila Wilson, Ms. Nazia Omer, and Ms. Agnes. Each speaker shared their personal story, reflecting on the challenges they have navigated and the strength that has shaped their paths. Through candid conversations, they highlighted how their lived experiences, societal barriers, and individual aspirations have informed who they are today.
A significant aspect of their narratives centered on the role NOWPDP has played in their development. From skill-building opportunities to advocacy and community support, NOWPDP’s initiatives have contributed to empowering these individuals and creating avenues for them to thrive—professionally, socially, and personally.
“Breathing Books” offered students and attendees a powerful opportunity to listen, engage, and learn from perspectives often overlooked. The event emphasized the importance of empathy-driven dialogue and the value of fostering inclusive spaces where every individual’s story is acknowledged and appreciated.
Through this initiative, IBA Karachi reaffirms its commitment to promoting diversity, accessibility, and inclusion on campus. The collaboration between NOWPDP and ODAI continues to pave the way for meaningful conversations and impactful programs that empower persons with disabilities and inspire broader societal change.
